Sale Overview

Christie’s European Art sale offers a curated selection of works from one of the most diverse and revolutionary eras in the history of art. Spanning from the years following the French Revolution into the early 20th century’s Art Nouveau style, the category encompasses nearly 90,000 artists who represent the many movements of the era. From the landscapes of the Barbizon painters to the bustling cities of the Belle Époque, the sale also includes works from the Victorian, Dutch, British and Academic schools, among others. All of the elegance and transformation to modernity that the 19th century embodies is captured in the paintings, drawings and sculptures presented in this sale.

A group of paintings from the distinguished collection of Tivoli Farm is included, leading a particularly strong Sporting section. The sale also includes a strong group of paintings from the Barbizon School at a variety of price points, and a diverse collection of sculptures on both marble and bronze. Highlights include works by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, Barend Cornelis Koekkoek, Frederic, Lord Leighton, Jean-François Raffaëlli, John Emms, Isaac Israëls and Montague Dawson, among others.
