The upcoming sale of Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art spans two days and features over 400 works in a diverse range of collecting categories, including Chinese furniture and scholar’s objects, Imperial Ming and Qing dynasty porcelain, archaic ritual bronzes, translucent jade carvings, textiles, gilt-bronze Buddhist sculpture and lacquer, many with distinguished provenances and publication history. Highlights include a magnificent and rare zitan dragon throne, dating to the 18th-19th century, a very rare flambe-glazed zun-form vase bearing a six-character Qianlong seal mark and of the period (1736-1795), and a superbly carved massive white marble torso of Buddha, dating to the early Tang dynasty, late 7th-8th century.
