Fine Chinese Modern and Contemporary Ink Paintings
Sale Overview
The Fine Chinese Modern and Contemporary Ink Paintings auction offers over 200 works on 1 December and presents private collections from all over the world, of which many are fresh to the market.
The leading masterpiece is Zhang Daqian's 1947 work Heavy Snow on a Mountain Pass from the Liu Jing Xiu Tang collection, demonstrating the artist's profound traditional skills and reverence for the classical tradition. Wu Guanzhong's 1970s marvellous ink and colour painting, A Hill City, was acquired by British collector Sir William G. Ehrman over 40 years ago and has remained in the same collection ever since. The auction also features twenty paintings from the Foh collection based in Singapore. The collection has been assembled over half a century to showcase the diversity of 20th-century Chinese art.
Other highlights in the auction include Wu Guanzhong's A Village of the Zhuang People in Guangxi, Pu Ru's Landscape Album from the Wintry Jade Studio, and Zhang Daqian's Lotus in Rain. Widely published and with impeccable provenance, these paintings are artistically and historically significant to the artists' oeuvre and are highly sought-after by collectors.
