The Fine Chinese Modern and Contemporary Ink Paintings auction offers over 200 artworks on 31 May from prominent private collections worldwide, many of which are fresh to the market. The leading masterpieces are Pan Tianshou's large-scale painting Scholar under Pine Tree and Zhang Daqian's notable work from the peak of his early career, Black Horse after Liu Yongnian.

The auction presents an array of other impressive pieces, including a twenty-four-leaf album by Qi Baishi, which was created in his 94-year-old. There's also Zhang Daqian's Tibetan Dancer, and his vibrant fine brush landscape painting in meticulous traditional Chinese Style, Fishing under Autumn Peaks in the Style of Yang Sheng, and his splash-ink and colour landscape paintings with excellent provenance. Wu Guanzhong's Yellow River and Lin Fengmian's The Four Beauties from the collection of Dr Wong Chun Bong are other notable pieces.

The auction also presents important private collections from around the world, including those of M K Lau Collection, the Fu Collection from Singapore, the family collection of Loh Cheng Chuan from Penang, the Kwok family collection, and the K'ung Hsiang-Hsi family, to illustrate the diversity of twentieth-century Chinese paintings.
