If I Live I'll See You Tuesday: Contemporary Art Auction

Sale Overview

Excellent results achieved for the If I Live I’ll See You Tuesday auction which totaled $134.6 million, with 97% sold by lot and 99,5% sold by value.

16 world auction records were set for major artists such as Joe Bradley, Dan Colen, Peter Doig, On Kawara, Glenn Ligon, Adam McEwen, Richard Prince and Thomas Schutte, the If I Live I’ll See You Tuesday auction convened works by emerging and established artists who largely exceeded all pre-sale estimates. The excellent results demonstrate the strength of the market for a breadth of young artists such as Alex Israel, whose Sky Backdrop achieved 5 times its estimate when it sold for $1,025,000 in the artist’s first appearance at auction.  Contemporary masters also saw strong demand with fierce competition from a largely international collector base. Martin Kippenberger’s Untitled was sold for the world record price of $18,645,000, after 6 minutes of bidding from in the room and on the phone. The sale witnessed worldwide participation, which demonstrated the globalized demand for this category, with 350 registrants representing 26 countries.
