Important Chinese Art presents an array of works of exceptional quality and with important provenance spanning three thousand years of Chinese civilization. The auction is highlighted by Property from a Princely Collection that includes a group of archaic jade carvings formerly in the collection of Baron (1894-1991) and Baroness von Oertzen (1908-2007) headlined by a rare yellow jade belt hook, dai gou, Western Han dynasty, a magnificent archaic bronze tripod pouring vessel and a cover, liu ding, from the 8th-7th century BC, formerly in the collection of Julius Eberhardt(1936-2012), and a group of Yixing works of art, all signed by renowned Yixing artists, that date to the early Qing dynasty(1644-1911). There is a strong focus on Buddhist works of art that include an important inscribed thangka depicting Four Lamas, Tibet, 16th century from a 9-lot private English collection assembled in the 1970s and 1980s, and a 22-lot collection of Buddhist gilt bronzes and cloisonné enamel works of art from an Important Private European collection led by a cloisonné enamel Tibetan ewer, duomuhu, 17th-18th century. In addition, the auction also features Ming and Qing imperial porcelain, modern Chinese paintings by celebrated artists, embroidered textiles and imperial robes from private English, European and Asian collections.
