Important Russian Art

Sale Overview

The Important Russian Art sale features a curated selection of works from a remarkable range of artistic movements, such as the Peredvizhniki [the Itinerants], the Russian Avant-Garde and Nonconformism, as well as a variety of exquisite objets d’art by Fabergé, rare vases by the Imperial Porcelain Factory as well as Soviet Propaganda porcelain.

The highlights of the first session include a magnificent and decadent portrait of a femme fatale by Nicolai Fechin, which was painted during his productive and highly sought-after Kazan period, and is now being offered from the family of the artist; an astounding Karelian canvas by Nicholas Roerich which manifests the artist’s fascination with the Stone Age and archaeology, as well as another powerful pre-emigration canvas dedicated to Orthodox saints; a selection of sublime seascapes by Ivan Aivazovsky, including one with the celebrated Russian poet Alexander Pushkin; as well as an archetypal Russian landscape by Ivan Shishkin, and more.

The second session features a group of rare works by Fabergé from an important European collection, as well as an exciting selection of bronzes, Imperial porcelain and enamelled works from private European and American collections. Other top lots include a remarkable mid-19th century Imperial porcelain vase, painted after Ernst-Gotthilf Bosse, and a rare Soviet porcelain vase, depicting Arctic expeditions of the early 20th century.
