Impressionist and Modern Art Works on Paper Sale
Sale Overview
As the only international auction house to hold a dedicated Impressionist and Modern Art Works on Paper sale in New York, Christie’s is honored to present our November 14th Works on Paper sale which comprises 141 lots. Led by Georges Braque's 1913 Cubist still life from the Stanford Z. Rothschild, Jr. Collection as well as a collection of Kurt Schwitters collages from a private European collection, the sale presents high quality works on paper by masters such as Fernand Léger, Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky and Edgar Degas. Notable private collections from Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass, Stanford Z. Rothschild, Jr., and the Estate of William Kelly Simpson are featured. Highlights include a richly colored gouache and watercolour by Joan Miró — sold by the family of the artist’s primary dealer Pierre Matisse — a highly worked 1916 pencil drawing by Giorgio de Chirico and a rare 1925 ink drawing by Edvard Munch depicting his famed Girls on the Bridge subject. Viewing begins on 4 November.
