Latin American Art

Sale Overview
Christie’s fall Latin American Art Sale offers collectors worldwide an opportunity to buy exceptional works by the most sought after artists from across the region, including Joaquín Torres-García, Matta, Fernando Botero, Rufino Tamayo, Claudio Bravo, Wifredo Lam, Adriana Varejão and Os Gêmeos.
Leading the sale are two exquisite examples of Universal Constructivism, Composition Nord-Art Constructif and Constructif avec poisson ocre, by the forefather of Latin American abstraction Joaquín Torres-García and a lushly colored and richly textured mature modernist work, Tres personajes, by Rufino Tamayo. Highlights also include two paintings from Claudio Bravo’s iconic Packages series: Red Package and Purple and Blue-Grey Package which epitomize the artist’s technical virtuosity and command of classical realism. Traditional subjects such as portraits, landscapes and still-lifes are well represented with an impressive collection of works in a variety of media by the celebrated master Fernando Botero from the monumental sized Man to the intimately scaled Horse. A curated selection of works by contemporary artists from Brazil Golden Art Collection including Os Gêmeos’ whimsical depiction of migrants and Adriana Varejão’s arresting Espelho D'Água from her signature Azulejos series round out the sale.
