Le jardin secret de Paul Haim
Sale Overview
Christie's is honored to present the collection of monumental sculptures collected by the dealer Paul Haim. All of these works occupied a secret place, that of the Petite Escalère, a garden nested along the Adour River a short distance from Biarritz, in the Basque Country. This garden hidden in a luxuriant vegetation was open only to the privileged few. This adventure began in the 1960s when Paul Haim and his wife decided to settle in a small farm that had seduced them. For nearly 40 years, they will gather through meetings and friendships of the most important sculptors of the twentieth century - Emile-Antoine Bourdelle, Alexander Calder, Augustin Cardenas, Anthony Caro, Edouardo Chillida, Aristide Maillol, Joan Miro, Isamu Noguchi, Auguste Rodin, Niki de Saint-Phalle, Zao Wou-Ki. A large part of these works will be created specifically for this place as magical as it is mysterious. It is this ensemble that Christie's is offering for sale and will be showing to the public from October 15 to 22 in the former Laennec Hospital, Kering's headquarters in Paris.
