Sale Overview

This sale of over 80 drawings by the greatest artists of the 19th and 20th centuries brings Christie’s third edition of Journées du Dessin to a close. Several works by Joan Miró lead the selection, among them a drawing of a dancer dating to 1937, the warm tones of which offer a striking counterpoint to the mood of many works of this period. A highlight of the 19th century section is a study for a key painting in the history of Impressionism, Yvonne et Christine Lerolle au piano by Renoir, now part of the collection of the musée de l'Orangerie in Paris. Outstanding works by Picasso, Gris, van Dongen and Redon also feature in the sale.
