Benjamin Peronnet, International Head of Department, Old Master Drawings, and Harriet Drummond, International Head of Department, British Art on Paper: “We are very pleased with the results of the ‘Old Master & British Drawings & Watercolours’ sale, which took place in a packed saleroom and which saw very international bidding in the room, on the phones and via Christie’s LIVE. Records were set for works on paper by: Jean-Antoine Watteau, Francois-Louis-David Bocion, Daniel Gardner (doubling the previous auction record) and Giovanni Battista Lusieri. The strong results achieved for works from private collections, such as the three drawings from the Estee Lauder Fund of the Neue Galerie, demonstrate the continuing enthusiasm for works by the great masters which are fresh to the market. The American market continues to be very strong, with US consignors and bidders contributing a great deal of activity on the top lots. We look forward to our sale ‘A Life’s Devotion: The Collection of the Late Mrs T.S. Eliot’ at King Street on 20 November 2013, and further ahead to our next sale of ‘Old Master & British Drawings & Watercolours’ in New York in January 2014.”
