Old Master Paintings

Sale Overview

Christie's spring sale of Old Master Paintings in New York on June 3 is highlighted by 26 paintings restituted to the heir of the famous Dutch dealer and art collector Jacques Goudstikker, continuing an annual tradition of offering important restituted artworks in our Old Master Paintings sales. Christie’s is honored to present this selection, which exemplifies Goudstikker’s sensitive appreciation of art from across the Netherlands, France and Italy, and showcases his wide-ranging and sophisticated taste. The sale also includes an exciting Noli me tangere by Francesco Solimena, a major rediscovery, as well as a marvelous fragment of the second version of El Greco’s famous composition The Martyrdom of St. Maurice. In addition, the sale will feature a selection of works from the exceptional Cunningham Collection, which is being auctioned across Old Master Paintings sales in New York in June and London in July, and features outstanding works from the 17th century and beyond.
