Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Sale

Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Sale

Sale Overview

Led by Ruscha’s 1964 masterwork, Hurting the Word Radio #2, the Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Sale tracks the evolution of art from the momentous era following World War II to the cutting-edge works of today. In the span of over half a century, the cool conceptualism of Ruscha emerged alongside the emotional complexity of Bacon’s roiling self-portraits, while Warhol explored the notion of celebrity in a rapidly changing world with portraits of sports icons such as Muhammad Ali. The highly anticipated auction also features works from the Collection of Eileen and I.M. Pei, comprised of gifts from the couple’s friends who were among some of the greats of art history.
