Coming to Christie’s New York this May, Remastered: Old Masters from the Collection of J.E. Safra Selling Without Reserve, showcases paintings from the Baroque through to the 19th Century. Highlights include Gustave Courbet’s Castle of Chillon (Château de Chillon), Angelica Kauffman’s Penelope awakened by Euryclea, and Jan Brueghel II’s Landscape with a windmill, figures and houses. The selection traverses the Dutch Golden Age with images of music-makers from Eglon Hendrick van der Neer and Pieter de Hooch, and landscapes by Jean-Baptiste Oudry, Hubert Robert and Adrien Manglard. There is also a fantastic range of 19th century paintings with artists including Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, Harald Sohlberg, and Philippe Rousseau. Selling without reserve, the works are united in their accessibility and universal appeal, both in theme and price point.
