The Jeremy Lancaster Collection

The Jeremy Lancaster Collection

Sale Overview

This October, Christie’s London will launch the Frieze Week Programme with an single-owner auction dedicated to the remarkable private collection of Jeremy Lancaster. A celebration of the artists he most admired, the collection represents a chorus of vivid colour, radical form and brilliant innovation.

Showcasing some of the greatest achievements in British painting with works by Frank Auerbach, Patrick Caulfield and Bridget Riley, the collection also includes a stellar selection of European and American works by Nicolas de Staël, Pablo Picasso, Robert Ryman and Philip Guston. At the heart of the Jeremy Lancaster Collection is a group of paintings by Howard Hodgkin that span seven decades, ranging from the early figurative composition Tea Party in America, 1948, to the concentrated beauty of works like Bombay Sunset, 1972-1973, Lawson Underwood & Sleep 1977-1980 and Flowerpiece, 2004-2005.

Taking place on 1 October 2019 and on view from 24 September 2019, the 54 works comprising the Jeremy Lancaster Collection Evening Auction will be publicly exhibited together for the first time. Highlights will be on tour in Hong Kong and New York, 3-6 September & 14-17 September respectively.
