Lot Essay

These busts were apparently commissioned by the Dean of Palencia Cathedral, Rodrigo Enriquez, in the first quarter of the sixteenth century for the chapel of San Marcos in Cuenca. According to seventeenth century family documents they were originally placed beside the altar but were later moved back into the family's domain where they have remained.
