Reference 6241 was introduced into the market in the early 1960s and remained in production until around 1969. Available in stainless steel, 14K and 18K gold, it was fitted with the "non-Oyster" or "non-screw down" chronograph buttons and a bezel with black plastic insert, the tachymetre scale printed in white. The dials featured the designations "Rolex Cosmograph" but not always the "Daytona". The so-called "tropical" Paul Newman dials also available for reference 6241 were either two-coloured white/cream and black or three-coloured, such as the present watch, with the addition of the red seconds scales.
The present watch, manufactured in 1964, the year of introduction of the model, is a very early example of this reference, featuring still the old, round case version. As of around 1966, the shape of the cases was modified to a more tonneau form. Consigned by a private collector, the watch is furthermore preserved in very good overall condition.
