Quarto (312 x 240 mm). 49 full-page sepia photographs. Original black cloth, spine and covers lettered and ruled in gilt (light spotting on the endpapers), original glassine dust-jacket (browned, chips and tears, one large chip at spine foot and onto back panel, a fragment of which laid-in), publisher's original black paper-covered slipcase, copy number in ink at the spine foot (extremities worn, colour possibly touched-up in a few spots, number in white ?chalk on the spine). Provenance: Joanna Steichen (by repute).

FIRST EDITION, A REMARKABLE SURVIVAL IN THE ORIGINAL GLASSINE DUST-JACKET AND PUBLISHER'S SLIPCASE. Number 786 of 925 copies signed by Steichen and Sandburg. ABPC records no other copy in dust-jacket sold at auction in over 30 years, and only one other in slipcase. A sumptuous book which 'includes a broad and cleverly sequenced array of Steichen's work...
