Lot Essay

In a letter to the present owner, dated 26 March 2004, Professor Giancarlo Sestieri proposed an attribution to Domenico Roberti, tentatively dating the picture early in the artist's career, when the influence of the French landscape painters, notably the Patels, is most evident.
