Details
XU BEIHONG (1895-1953)
A Galloping Horse
Scroll, mounted and framed, ink and colour on paper
80 x 44 cm (31½ x 17¼ in.)
Inscribed and signed, with two seals of the artist
Dated thirty-fourth year (of the Republic, 1945)

Note:
A Galloping Horse and Boar actually belonged to a group of paintings that were auctioned in 1993 in Sotheby's New York. These paintings were given to the owner directly by the artist. In addition to these current two, there was also a third, Rooster, with a dedication to Mr. Smith. Although there are no dedications on the current two lots, one can infer from Rooster that Xu had a large following that extended to Western connoisseurs of Chinese painting as well.

Provenance
Lot 153, 29 November 1993, Fine Chinese Paintings, Sotheby's New York.
