Mechanical movement, 30 jewels, silvered and engraved dial, centred by applied gold floral decoration, Roman numerals interspersed by engraved scroll decoration, blued steel spade hands, engine-turned subsidiary seconds, outer fifths of a second and Arabic five minute divisions, gold cuvette engraved with technical information, signature and the words Depôt Naples, 15 Place Municipio, circular hinged case with chased and engraved floral and scroll decoration on the front and back, the front with a cartouche bearing the engraved initials RVB, the inside of the front cover is engraved Estote Ergo Prudentes Sicut Serpentes, Et Simplices Sicut Columbae, repeating slide and chronograph button in the band, case numbered, cuvette numbered and signed, dial signed

Lot Essay

The watch is engraved in Latin on the inside of the front cover with the biblical motto (Matthew 10:16) "Estote Ergo Prudentes Sicut Serpentes, Et Simplices Sicut Columbae", which translates to "Therefore be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves."

The watchmaking firm Louis Mugnier & Cie. was active in Geneva in the second half of the 19th century and specialized in high quality complicated watches.
