Lot Essay
Thaulow spent part of January 1895 in the small town of Le Petit-Appeville by the river Scie on the outskirts of Dieppe, and by the Arques river near the village of Martin-Eglise, also close to Dieppe, where he painted winter scenes, including most likely, the present lot. The artist made at least five versions of this composition, including an oil on canvas at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (inv. 23.498).
