Lot Essay

With Rolex original presentation box.

The present watch is a fine example of a 1950's timepiece that features a dial with four lines of text, a beautifully aged dial, and a bezel that has aged to a light purple color. Most earlier examples featured only "100m=330ft" and "Submariner", while the present watch furthermore mentions "Officially Certified Chronometer" on two further lines. The lines are also printed in two slightly different colors, with the depth rating in a dark taupe color, while the model name is in gilt (as well as the coronet, "Rolex", and "Oyster Perpetual" and outer minute track. The last two lines are also printed on the dial in the same dark taupe as the first line, but in much thinner letters. Originally finished in galvanic black lacquer, this dial has perfectly aged over the last 50 years and turned into a work of art and taken on a captivating brown tone.

An extremly charismatic watch, still retaining its original bracelet and factory case proportions, crisp reference and case numbers combined with the four line color change dial and private provenance render this 6536/1 one of the finest examples offered in recent years.
