Lot Essay

This small unpublished portrait shows Abrahams' close connections with another key member of the 'modern' movement of plein air painting in Australia in the 1880s, for whom see the note for lot 1 above. Julian Rossi's brother George had a studio next to Louis on Collins Street east in 1885-86.
