Cal. 281, nickel-finished lever movement, 17 jewels, matte black and silvered, white baton and luminous beady indexes, engine-turned subsidiary dials for seconds, date, 12- hour and 30-minute registers, apertures for day of the week, months and moon phases, luminous steel tapered hands, tonneau-shaped water-resistant-type case, tachometer graduation on the black bezel to 500 units, screwed-down case back, correctors in the band, case, dial and movement signed

Lot Essay

The Universal caliber 281 replaced the slightly smaller Cal. 481 in the late 1950s. This allowed for the introduction of new chronograph pusher styles and the use of screw down casebacks that can be seen in the sportier Tri-Compax models such as the present watch.
