The reference 4537 is one of the first chronographs from Rolex with a three-register chronograph movement in a case with water-resistant pump pushers and a screw-down case back, earning the watch the designation of “Oyster” on the dial. For collectors of rare early Rolex chronographs, the present watch is an exciting discovery due to the rarity of the reference, known in only a small number of examples to the market. Notably, the present watch is preserved in excellent overall condition with the blue telemeter scale and the black tachymeter scale to the outside of the dial create subtle and handsome features. This watch was among the earliest examples of the reference 4537, produced circa March 1946. Furthermore, only 24 examples of the reference 4537 were made in 18k yellow gold, making it an extremely rare find. In addition, it was previously sold by Christie's for 75,000 CHF in November 2012.
