the pair of engravings with etching, 1789, on laid paper, watermark Dovecote (not in Haewood) and the respective AUVERGNE countermark, a fine, uniform pair of these rare prints, with wide margins, in very good condition; together with Les Précautions by Pietro Antonio Martini (1739-1797) and Les Adieux by Robert Delaunay (1749-1814), both from: Le Monument du Costume after Jean-Michel Moreau le Jeune (1741-1814), engravings with etching, 1777, very good impressions, with margins, Les Adieux trimmed inside the platemark but well outside the subject at left, some foxing

Lot Essay

Moreau's series Le Monument du Costume, of which two plates are included in this lot, was an important influence on Saint-Aubin, in particular on this gallant pair of prints, which are in fact portraits of the artist and his wife.
