Lot Essay

This “big Calatrava” is a highly attractive example of the celebrated model, distinguished by the charismatic “Explorer-style” dial with the Arabic 3, 9 and 12 numerals and subsidiary second. Furthermore equipped with the first series of the movement calibre 12’’’120. A striking watch of timeless design, as modern now as it was at the time of its sale.

In production from 1938 to 1972, reference 570 is considered a cornerstone of any serious Patek Philippe collection. It was available in the three gold colours as well as in steel and in platinum and with or without sweep centre seconds.

Other examples of reference 570 are described and illustrated in Patek Philippe Museum Patek Philippe Watches, Volume II, pp. 331-335
