Lot Essay

The Reference 5204 was released at the Basel show in 2012 and originally featured the 001 silvered dial with applied black baton numerals filled with luminescent material. The next two versions of the 5204P dial variations were launched in 2014 and features the 010 silvered dial with white gold luminescent baton numerals as found in the present lot and the 011 black dial with white gold luminescent baton numerals.

In a 40 mm. case, the watch appears massive compared to the 36.7 mm. Ref. 5004. Numerous design improvements were made to the dial giving it an overall cleaner look and assisting in readability. Ref. 5204 exemplifies Patek Philippe's quest to make the the most functional and usable split seconds chronograph to be offered on the market. The Ref. 5204 uses caliber CHR 29-535 PS Q, a new in-house calibre for the manufacture.

The present watch is fresh to the market and, with this dial variation, is the first example to be offered at Christie's. Furthermore the present watch is offered in extremely good condition.
