From 1906 until the 1920s, Audemars Piguet manufactured approximately thirty-five minute repeating wristwatches, including a cushion-shaped minute repeating wristwatch made especially for John Wallace Shaeffer, Vice President of the Allied Chemical Corporation, located in Morristown, New Jersey. Realizing his name consisted of twelve letters, the famous industrialist asked Audemars Piguet to customize his repeater, and this was the watch that inspired the "John Shaeffer" series, launched in the 1990's.
Part of this celebrated "John Shaeffer" series of complicated wristwatches in cushion-shaped cases, the present watch is number 3 in a limited edition of only 3 ever made, an extraordinarily rare timepiece.
Cased in titanium, this modern material is forty percent lighter and more corrosion resistant than stainless steel. The jump hour combined with minute repeater is a complex movement, available to admire through the sapphire crystal case back, also marked 3/3.
Offered in excellent condition, complete with its Audemars Piguet certificate and presentation box, this offers an opportunity for the discerning collector to own a significant timepiece which is embedded in the history of the brand.
