Lot Essay

The present ref. 5513 is a very well-preserved example of a 1975 Submariner model, the appeal further enhanced by the presence of the period accessories, all rarities by themselves.

The matte dial with its serifs to the printed "Oyster Perpetual" impresses with its original, unrestored condition, perfectly matching the production time of 1975. The well-preserved, slightly creamy luminous accents are intact and in a shade perfectly matching the luminescence of the hands. Furthermore, its case shows strong proportions and well-defined edges to the lugs.

The icon of Rolex sports and dive watches, ref. 5513 was in production from 1962 until 1989, one of the longest manufacturing runs of any Rolex ever made. During the 27 years of production the model has encountered a multitude of variations of dials, all illustrating the incessant quest for innovations by the firm, while staying true to its heritage.
