Lot Essay

Introduced in 1996, Patek Philippe launched the groundbreaking Reference 5035. It was the first self-winding wristwatch to feature an annual calendar, meaning the watch only had to be set once a year. The innovation of the annual calendar from Patek Philippe helped lay down the foundation for the future of the complications family from the manufacturer.

Ten years later, the brand introduced Reference 5146, which increased the case from 37mm to 39mm. The present lot, Reference 5146G-001, has a creamy ivory dial that can only be fully appreciated when viewed with the naked eye. Applied 18k white gold indices lay flush with the lacquered dial and help give the watch a sense of presence on the wrist.
