A great Lange rarity chosen for its beauty, exclusivity and quality by the owner of the Ultimate Collection and accompanied by the Extract from the Archives, this Lange 1A reference 112.021 was the brand’s first Limited Edition and as such is much coveted and hardly ever seen at auction. In production between 1998 and 1999 the edition of 100 watches was immediately sold out. The present watch, no. 19/100 of the strictly limited edition exclusively available in yellow gold, is furthermore distinguished by the hand engine-turned solid 18K gold dial.
A timepiece of extraordinary quality, the Lange 1A pays tribute to A. Lange & Söhne's historic pocket watches bearing the distinction "1A" for their ultimate craftsmanship.
Other than one unique Tourbillon Pour le Mérite, Lange 1A – 112.021 is not only the brand’s first watch with a guilloché dial, it is also the brand’s first watch to feature a solid gold dial. In classic Lange style, this highly luxurious model is the epitome of ‘stealth wealth’ in using rich precious materials with unostentatious styling. Indeed, externally everything apart from the blued steel seconds hand is yellow gold, even the date discs are a complementary matte yellow colour.
Of superb workmanship, the caliber L901.1 movement of the Lange 1A is fitted with a gold escape lever and gold escape wheel for which specially hardened white gold is used as it is much more wear-resistant than yellow gold. The pallet, escape wheel and balance bridges are also in gold and individually engraved by hand. The two tandem-wound mainspring barrels provide a power reserve of at least three days and allow a progressive power reserve indication.
