The ‘Extra Fort’ is perhaps Eberhard’s most iconic chronograph. Perennially in high demand from collectors due to its great mid-century aesthetic and 39 mm. diameter case. This stunning 18k pink gold example is unusually and exceedingly well preserved, showing few, if any signs of any wear. The silvered dial is equally impressive and unblemished, it displays a gentle untouched patina to the applied gold indexes, the outer blue tachymeter scale adds the perfect pop of colour.
The ‘Extra Fort’ is memorable as being a ‘monopusher’ or single-button chronograph, although in appearance it looks like a typical two pusher chronograph. The pusher at 2 o’clock controls the start / stop and reset functions of the chronograph whilst the ‘pusher’ at 4 o’clock in fact slides upwards to lock the chronograph as a safety measure to prevent accidental activation.
Eberhard & Co. was founded by Georges Eberhard in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland in 1887. With the launch of its first chronograph wristwatch in 1919 the firm was quickly recognized as one of the most prominent manufacturers of chronographs in Switzerland.
