With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with raised gold hour markers in 1951 and its subsequent sale on 12 June 1953.
Reference 2442, introduced in 1948, impresses exactly 60 years after its introduction as much as it must have been a sensation when first presented. Its generous case proportions and fluid lines lend it a seductive presence hardly ever achieved by any other rectangular wristwatch.
Mainly cased in yellow gold, so far less than 20 examples of reference 2442 cases in pink gold have appeared in public. The present watch however is part of an exceedingly small series of pink gold references 2442 with pink dial to be offered at auction. Its rarity is enhanced by the rare combination of a pink gold case and the tone-in-tone pink dial, beautifully accentuating the appeal of this charismatic timepiece.
