Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming manufacture of the present watch in 18K rose and yellow gold and with gold hour markers in 1930 and its subsequent sale on 29 May 1937.

Reference 622 is distinguished by its geometrical yet modernist case design, typical for the Art Deco period, and its so-called "target" dial, resembling the targets used in shooting sports.

In production only during a very short period in the mid 1930s, it was made in an exceedingly small series, the majority cased in yellow gold.

The present watch is believed to be the first and so fare only example of reference 622 in yellow and pink gold known to exist to date. It was most probably originally sold to France, a theory underlined by the French assay marks on the bow and the designation "FAB. SUISSE" on the dial, used for watches destined to the French market.
