CASE: gorge case, engraved and matted dial mask, regilt DIALS: white enamel time dial with visible jewelled Brocot escapement to recessed centre signed 'LÉPINE/2 PLACE DES VICTOIRES/ET PALAIS ROYAL/GALERIE DE VALOIS 124', gilt-brass hands; calendrical dial with outer month ring, recessed centre with moonphase, day of week, date and leap year dials; blued steel hands MOVEMENT: twin barrels, strike on bell, cam to calendar work below, stamped 'LEPINE/A PARIS'; bimetallic rod pendulum, winding key

Lot Essay

Established by Jean-Antoine Lépine (1720-1814) who became one of the great clockmakers of 18th Century France, Maison Lépine was still in business at Place des Victoires in 1819. The addresses used on this dial suggest a date of 1860/70. See also lot 145.
