Lot Essay

This print is after the original oil painting by David Roberts exhibited at the R.A. in 1849, no. 290. Having been so well-received, and anxious to please his public, Roberts turned to Haghe to produce a print of his painting. Twenty-five presentation editions signed by both the artist and engraver were produced, of which this is one.
