The European Art Part I sale is a masterpiece-level sale which offers a curated platform for paintings and sculptures of extraordinary quality by the most sought-after artists of the different schools of 19th century Europe. The most important sale offered in this category annually, this sale highlights the innovation and diversity of this vibrant period in the history of art. Among the highlights is an important work by Peder Severin Krøyer, from the artist’s acclaimed ‘blue period.’ Other highlights include exceptional works by Giovanni Segantini, Herbert James Draper, Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, Gustave Courbet, Vilhelm Hammershøi, William Adolphe Bouguereau and Julius LeBlanc Stewart, among others.

The sale also includes an extraordinary group of paintings from the Collection of Mrs. Elizabeth R. Moran by Sir Alfred Munnings, the foremost equestrian artist of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Led by the artist’s wonderful equestrian portrait Who’s the Lady?, the collection spans different periods to represent top-quality examples of each of the artist’s most sought-after subjects.
