Jason Carey, Director, Head of Impressionist and Modern Day Sale: “These results demonstrate the diversity of market demand, from early Impressionism through to 20th century Constructivism. The geographical reach of the category at this price level continues to expand each season with many of the lots in this sale bought or underbid by Asian collectors; the traditional markets of Europe and America continued to compete throughout. The strong sell through rates demonstrate the quality of works offered. It is notable that five works achieved over £500,000: a rare sculpture by Kurt Schwitters, two important ceramics by Pablo Picasso and two exceptional paintings by Pierre-Auguste Renoir.”
