Our June Old Masters sale realized $17,932,000/£10,759,200/€13,090,360.

Nicholas Hall, Co-Chairman, Old Masters & 19th Century Art, commented, “The remarkable performance of this sale demonstrated the enthusiastic demand for Old Master Paintings with exceptional provenance, leading to the highest ever June total for this category.  The Norman and Suzanne Hascoe Collection was 91% sold, with several lots from their collection appearing in the Top Ten.  Pieter Brueghel II’s Peasants in an Open Wagon led the group of Property Restituted to the Heirs of Hans Ludwig Larsen, which also performed very well. With Caspar Netscher’s Woman Feeding a Parrot realizing $5,093,000, a world auction record for the artist, this marks the third consecutive year that a major restituted work has led the sale.  In addition to Netscher, new world auction records were also set for works by Hendrik Frans van Lint, known as Lo Studio, and Domenico Fetti.  The content and success of this sale underscores Christie’s ongoing commitment to making the June sale a meaningful date on the art world calendar.  We look forward to the Old Master Paintings sales in London in July.”
