US$28,000-36,000
EUR18,500-23,500
Accompanied by a Patek Philippe presentation box, certificate, interchangeable full back and corrector.
Patek Philippe's calibre 240 Q is the most magnificent example of the company's fluent style and technical skills. Comprising 275 miniscule parts, this compact marvel is incredibly thin due in part to the integrated off-centre 22k gold minirotor.
This superb calibre powers a number of references, from simple time display with date and small seconds to ultra-complications, the perpetual calendars are of no exception.
Reference 3940, launched in 1985 to replace reference 3450 (lot 2805), is one of Patek Philippe's longest production model. Spanning over three decades, an estimated 7,000 pieces were made. Available in all precious metal, with very similar dial configuration, this reference is generally divided into three series with differences in hour markers or subdials (see lot 2980 for reference 3940 with Roman numerals).
The elegant and functional dial layout on the 3940 is shared by references 5140, 5039 (lot 2981), 5040 (lot 2988) and 5136/1 (lot 2987).
Production ceased in 2007, replaced by the reference 5140.
