Of the high end pearl inlaid guitars made by Martin prior to World War II, the OOO-42 is among one of the rarest. Priced at $125 in 1939 it was $60 less than the more expensive Style 45. Compared to the "45", it shared the same high quality Brazilian rosewood back and sides and Adirondack spruce top but lacked the bound headstock and more extensive pearl inlay work.
Between 1932 and 1943 only 114 were produced with a 14 fret neck. It is this neck length of 14 frets to the body and the body size of the OOO that makes these guitars highly desirable among finger-style blues and ragtime guitarists.
