The Daytona chronograph reference 6262 was launched in the late 1960s and remained in production until around 1972. The model was updated with a new movement, caliber 727, and was available with stainless steel, 14K and 18K gold, the dials either standard two-tone or the Paul Newman version.
The present watch is a fine example of this reference, preserved in very good, original overall condition. Its dial features the red "Daytona" designation above the 12 hours register dial, a must for the Paul Newman version of reference 6262, and shows an attractive cream-coloured patina from age.
Reference 6262 is illustrated and described in Rolex Daytona - a legend is born by Carlo Pergola, Stefano Mazzariol, Giovanni Dosso, pp. 110-130, for a similar Paul Newman dial see pp. 176 & 177.
