EUR195,000-270,000
With Patek Philippe special presentation box, Certificate of Origin, product literature, leather folder and interchangeable full back.
The present watch is the second example of the reference 5078 to ever appear at auction to date. The first example was sold at Christie's Geneva on 12 November 2007 for CHF481,000.
Manufacture of reference 5078 began in 2005 and is the successor of the legendary reference 3979 which was in production from 1989 to 1998. Reference 5078 is available exclusively in platinum with white enamel dial or the new black lacquered dial.
The automatic R 27 PS movement features a 22k gold minirotor fully recessed in the plate. Because of its compact design, the movement is only 5.05 mm. thick. Thanks to its specific gravity, the rotor generates enough energy to wind the movement despite its small dimensions. A centrifugal governor embossed with the Calatrava cross controls the strike rhythm of the hammers on the gongs.
