With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with black dial, applied luminous indexes in gold and gold bracelet in 1978 and its subsequent sale on 5 September 1979.
Fresh to the market, the watch is distinguished by its very good, close to new overall condition.
The Nautilus collection was introduced in 1976 following Patek Philippe's wish for a model with a strong design and inimitable personality. Created by Gérald Genta, it was inspired by the universal shape of a porthole found on virtually all maritime vessels. The first Nautilus ever made was reference 3700/1 in stainless steel. Since then, the Nautilus has established itself as a classic elegant sports watch and the original reference is one of the most sought-after timepieces at auction.
Reference 3700/1 was in production from 1976 to 1986. The model is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 231.
