According to the Archives of Piaget, the present watch was manufactured in 1972.
An extraordinarily beautiful creation, this highly imaginative bracelet watch from Piaget’s “21st Century Collection perfectly encapsulates Valentin Piaget’s vision in 1969 of “an unrestrained explosion of creativity”, at a time when watches and jewellery emerged as sculptural works of art.
The level of craftsmanship involved in the making of this piece is exceptional, influenced by nature, the goldsmith has created a rocaille design and each link is articulated, as is the watch where it attaches to the bracelet so that the piece is not only comfortable to wear but moves naturally with the contours of the wrist. The randomly sized and spaced tiger’s eye spheres that decorate the bracelet and bezel lend a distinctly futuristic feel to the piece, very much a 60s and 70s imagining of the 21st century. The innate style and workmanship has indeed stood the test of time and as with all great design, it transcends fashion. This watch is as wearable and avant-garde today as it ever was.
Another example of this model with lapis lazuli decoration is prominently illustrated in: Piaget, Florence Müller, 2014, p. 206.
