One of the 20 copies on Japan. Artist and intellectual, Philippe Burty contributed to the influence of the Japanese arts in Europe, being the first one to give a name to this movement: “japonisme”. Fond of prints and etching in particular, he purchases numerous Japanese prints and extend his collection to artistic Japanese and Chinese objects, with ceramics and accessories for samurai. This catalogue witnesses the quality of his collection, and the erudition of the man who gathered it.
