拍賣簡介
This October, The Collector returns to Christie’s London, New York and Paris as the international platform for connoisseurs and collectors of Decorative Arts. The sales are brought to you as a three-part series, with all lots opening for bidding on 13 October and closing consecutively by sale location on 31 October, 1 November, and 3 November. The Collector includes important European, English and 19th-century furniture, porcelain, silver, gold boxes and works of art dating from the 16th to the 20th century, all of which highlight the enduring craftsmanship and beauty of exceptional works of art. Christie’s is honored to present six pairs of Coronation chairs commissioned by His Majesty The King for The Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla at the Abbey Church of Westminster on 6 May 2023. Two pairs will be offered at each sale site.
In New York, Christie’s is pleased to include a series of notable collections in addition to offerings from our various owners. We are proud to feature The Personal Collection of Niall Smith, a curious collector, visionary, and dealer of fine furniture. The works from his private collection include a wonderful selection of micromosaics, an array of ‘Grand Tour’ souvenirs, and a curated selection of Biedermeier furniture, among other works of art. ‘From the Heart’ showcases the porcelain collection of Dr. Julius and Joan Jacobson, including rare and unusual forms such as a very rare Sèvres ecuelle in the Chinoiserie taste dating to the 1760s, and an impressive Meissen clock from the early 18th century. Further notable groups include another installment of impressive Silver from The Orange Blossom Collection; rare Chinese Export porcelain from a distinguished American collection; and Property from the Collection of Morton and Norma Lee Funger.
Alongside these important collections, this seasons’ New York offering will also feature lots with important provenances, including a charger from the pantry of Augustus II the Strong, Elector of Saxony, King of Poland, Grand Duke of Lithuania; as well as lots by prominent makers like the set of four George II chairs by Giles Grendey.
